Standard vanity cabinets are built exactly the same as
sink base kitchen cabinets, with the only major difference between the height and
depth. Kitchen cabinets are 34 1/2 inches high and 24 inches deep, whereas,
vanity cabinets range from 29 to 32 inches high and come 18 or 21 inches deep.
These are standard sizes, you can always put a sink base cabinet into a bathroom (as long
as it will fit). In general, I recommend for master bathrooms or bathrooms that
will only be used by adults that you go with
the kitchen cabinet height vanities so you do not have to bend down as much when
you use the sink. For depth, I would always go with the deepest that will fit
comfortably in your bathroom.
The other difference is that sink base cabinets generally only come with one or two doors
and drawer faces designed for a single sink, whereas vanities come in many
different layouts that differ
in how many doors and drawers there are and whether there will be one or two sinks.
Sink base cabinets tend to sell for 10 - 20% less than equivalent vanity cabinets,
despite the fact that vanity cabinets use less wood.
Some standard layouts are shown below (only the first two are available as a
kitchen sink base):
